USA Today announces ALL-USA Idaho Football Team; several local players on list

USA TODAY High School Sports announced the 2015 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Idaho Football Team on Wednesday.

Players were selected based on their athletic achievements from the 2015-16 season.

Players from East Idaho are in bold.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Mike Schroeder, Emmett

A year ago, Schroeder guided the Huskies to their first postseason appearance since 1997. This season, his fourth at the helm, he brought Emmett all the way, capping a perfect 11-0 campaign with a Class 3A state championship. Schroeder’s team averaged 51.5 points per game and outscored foes by an average of 36.6.

OFFENSE

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Trey Bell, Mountain View (Meridian)

The state’s Gatorade Football Player of the Year, Bell was a big-play machine for the state finalist Mavericks (11-1). He rushed for 1,804 yards and 26 touchdowns on 206 carries, while catching 21 passes for 412 yards and another four scores.

Wills was the most menacing linebacker in the state, recording 137 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions on a defense that held opponents to 13.0 points per game.
