Local nurse honored for saving referee having seizures during basketball game

The winners of the 2016 East Idaho Real Heroes awards were announced at the American Red Cross’s annual luncheon Thursday, Feb. 25. Each day, through March 13, EastIdahoNews.com will feature a different winner.
IDAHO FALLS — Korri Smith and her sister, Kristen, were watching a youth basketball game at the Idaho Falls Recreation Center when the referee began having a seizure and his heart stopped.
Korri, an emergency room nurse at EIRMC, rushed to his side. She instructed her sister and another spectator as they began CPR and other life saving measures.
Through their efforts, they were able to revive the referee, saving his life.
