IDAHO FALLS — The body of a woman missing since Sunday was found in a canal in Bingham County Tuesday morning.

Idaho Falls Police said a canal worker found Patricia Dexter, 85, of Idaho Falls southwest of 97th South and 5th West just after 8 a.m. Dexter was first reported missing about 4 p.m. Sunday after leaving the MorningStar Senior Living Center in Idaho Falls.

Dexter lived in the independent community at MorningStar and was free to go at any time, according to Idaho Falls Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen.

Search and Rescue crews spent Monday searching a canal near MorningStar after Dexter’s jacket was found near the water’s edge of the canal.

Family members and residents at MorningStar have been notified of Dexter’s death, Hansen said.

The following statement from MorningStar Senior Living has been issued:

“Our hearts are broken upon hearing the news early this morning of the loss of Patricia. Our deepest condolences are extended to her family, as we continue to lift prayers for their comfort and …for the comfort of the many friends who loved her in this close‐knit community.”

The Bonneville County Coroner has not declared an official cause of death for Dexter.
