REXBURG — Madison Memorial Hospital announced a new partnership with the Huntsman Cancer Institute Wednesday during a ribbon cutting for the Cancer Care Center and Specialty Clinic.

“Having cancer care close to home is how we believe it should be delivered,” said Ben Tanner, Chief Operating Officer for Huntsman Cancer Institute, said during the ceremony. “That is one of our goals – getting appropriate care at the right place, at the right time.”

Officials from Madison County, Madison Memorial Hospital, the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Huntsman Cancer Institute were among dozens attending the ceremony and open house.

The new clinic will focus on patients and what they need while being close to home.

“This is really all about the patient and doing the best thing we can for the patients,” said Dr. John Sweetenham, Senior Director of Clinical Affairs and Executive Medical Director. “Cancer patients do better when they are at home.”

In the new Cancer Center, there are multiple ways patients can celebrate their achievement and progress. On one wall hangs a bell donated by the Madison County Fire Department. When a patient finishes their treatment, either by choice or success, they ring the bell.

“All of this hard work is to provide patient centered care,” said Dr. Jonathan D. King, oncologist for Huntsman Cancer Institute who will be working in the clinic. “My goal is to take outstanding care of patients from a personalized approach. The right technical thing to do is fairly straightforward, but it’s the human side of things that’s much more difficult, and that’s what drives me.”
