Pocatello teacher picked as Idaho Human Rights Educator-of-the-Year

POCATELLO — The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights has selected Pocatello/Chubbuck School District teacher, Mary Ann McGrory, as the Idaho Human Rights Educator-of-the-Year.
The award honors educators who support the Center’s mission to promote respect for human dignity and diversity through education and to foster individual responsibility to work for justice and peace. Their mission is achieved through educational programs with teachers and students to increase human rights learning and civic leadership.
McGrory is a Social Studies teacher and department chair at Alameda Middle School. She is in her 26th year in education and serves as the school’s Student Leadership Adviser and served on the building leadership team the past ten years. In addition she coordinates the ACE Tour, which takes 7th and 8th grade students on historical and civic tours of Washington DC and New York.
McGrory has had articles published in Teaching Tolerance magazine and in the Idaho State Journal. She will officially receive her award at the Center for Human Rights’ annual “Change Your World” Celebration next month in Boise.
