IDAHO FALLS — The body of a Bonneville County woman was discovered this morning after she apparently drove her vehicle into a canal on the 4000 block of East Ririe Highway.

Deputies say 31-year-old Kira Bott was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry when the accident happened.

Bonneville County Sheriff Sgt. Jeff Edwards tells EastIdahoNews.com that a car was found upside down in a ditch on the north side of the road around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Several deputies responded and began looking for the driver after she was not located inside the vehicle.

A farmer, working a half mile downstream from the canal, discovered the woman’s body in a head gate shortly before 11 a.m.

“We don’t believe she intentionally drove into the canal,” Edwards says. “This appears to be an accident.”

Edwards says high weeds surround the canal and neighbors report hearing a loud unusual noise around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

They did not notice the vehicle in the water and it was not discovered until this morning.
