Zoo Idaho Officially Welcomes Two New Residents

POCATELLO — Zoo Idaho has a pair of new residents.
Earlier this summer, the zoo took in a female bobcat kitten and a bull elk. The 3 to 4-month-old kitten came to the zoo from Idaho Fish and Game. Officials were given the kitten after it was picked up by people recreating in the St. Anthony Sand Dunes Area. Meanwhile, Big Bob, a bull elk, was brought to Zoo Idaho from the Mountain Home area. Residents had been feeding him grain, making him acclimated to humans and creating the potential for dangerous human/wildlife interactions.
“Taking in these in these animals is exactly what being an indigenous species zoo is all about,” said Zoo Superintendent Peter Pruett. “We provide a chance at life for these animals and they give us the chance to experience their beauty in person.”
The kitten, who has not been named yet, will be introduced to Buddy, the zoo’s other resident bobcat, later this fall and be placed in the exhibit. Meanwhile, zoo-goers can see Big Bob in the upper level corral right now.
