The following is a news release from Bonneville Joint School District 93.

BONNEVILLE COUNTY — In a late night meeting of the Board of Trustees, the Board voted to continue using a Community Advisory Committee to filter through the more than 1,800 high school name suggestions that have been submitted by the community.

Chairing the committee will be Greg Calder of the Board of Trustees.

Greg pushed for more Board involvement during the Board Work Session on Wednesday.

“I got a lot of emails,” said Calder. “I got a lot of phone calls, and I know we all did too, but at the end of the day I have to defend what happens and my personality is such that if I’m going to be responsible for what happens, I would just as soon have input and be in control of what happens.”

The Principal of the new high school will serve on this new committee.

Mr. McLaren will be joined by others from the previous committee as well as community members and students. One notable change is that every zone in the district will have a representative on the advisory committee.

“I think we got some pretty clear feedback that we needed to broaden that out,” said Calder.
Naming suggestions are currently being taken through this link: http://bit.ly/highschoolnames. This link can be found on the district’s webpage, www.d93schools.org and Facebook page. Community members can also make their suggestions by calling the district office at (208) 525-4400. Suggestions for names will be taken until 4:00 pm on Friday, September 30th.

The advisory committee will review the suggestions and filter the more than 1,800 suggestions down to a more manageable number. From there, a survey will be made available for D93 students and patrons to determine community support for each of the proposed names and mascots.

The final potential names will be given to the Board to make the determination in naming the school and the mascot at an upcoming Board meeting. They are currently aiming to make a decision on the new name and mascot during the Board Meeting on November 2nd.
