Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(BOCA RATON, Fla.) — Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said at the NHL general managers meetings Monday that star forward Evgeni Malkin is expected to miss the next 1-2 weeks with a lower-body injury.
Malkin was injured in the first period of the team’s loss to Boston Saturday.
Malkin, a former Hart Trophy winner, has played in 63 games this season, recording 28 goals and 40 assists.
Rutherford also said that forward Patric Hornqvist will miss around one week after being injured in the team’s loss to Detroit on Sunday.
Before play Monday, the Penguins sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division, just four points ahead of the Washington Capitals.
