IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Police Department announced the addition of Officers Mitchall Bierma and Tyler Howard to the city’s police force Wednesday.

Bierma and Howard were officially sworn in by Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper Thursday during a ceremony held at the Idaho Falls Police Department Training Annex.

“These men were hired because of qualities they held that emulated the values within our police department,” Idaho Falls Police Chief Mark McBride said. “We expect that both Officers Bierma and Howard will represent those values well while serving.”

Bierma is a 2010 Hillcrest High School graduate. He attended a year at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah, and is currently serving as a Marines Reservist.

He pursued a career in law enforcement has as an opportunity to repay a community that helped him become the person he is today, he said.

He and his wife, Reagan, have been married a little over a year.

Howard graduated from Bonneville High School in 2005. Howard previously worked for the Idaho Falls Police Department Animal Services between 2009 and 2011. He left after being hired by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Howard said he is excited to return to work for the IFPD as a patrol officer because of the department’s great rapport and teamwork.

Howard and his girlfriend, Courtney Wilder, are currently raising an eight‐year‐old and a five‐year‐old.
