‘Explosion’ of baby animals at Idaho Falls Tautphaus Park Zoo

IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park is celebrating its 80th birthday by welcoming a new zebra foal, along with other species of baby animals.
“We are thrilled to have another addition to our zebra herd,” Interim Zoo Superintendent, Linda Beard said.
Beard said the female foal is the third baby to be born to the 9-year-old zebra mare, and the 18th foal fathered by the zoo’s 24-year-old zebra stallion.
The zebra foal’s name is Adanna, which translates to “her father’s daughter” in Swahili, Zoo Education Curator Sunny Katseanous said.
There is usually a baby zebra born at the zoo every other year or so, Katseanous said.
“It’s just a nice surprise to have their birthday and our birthday,” Katseanous said.
Katseanous said that aside from the baby zebra, the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park recently welcomed wallaby joeys, penguins, ring-tailed lemurs, hyrax, tinamou chicks, tortoises and spur-winged lapwing.
“Everybody likes baby animals,” Katseanous said. “It’s a good year for babies in this park.”
