Search continues for missing 2-year-old in Lemhi County
Published at | Updated atUPDATE: The Lemhi County Sheriff’s released the following statement late Sunday afternoon updating on the search:
“A comprehensive search of a radius of 2 ½ miles from the campground has been completed by Search and Rescue staff.
There have consistently been search staff members on the ground since the initial call was received day and night. One huge issue has been folks showing up on their own and entering the search area without our incident commander’s knowledge. The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office is discouraging concerned folks from entering the search area without being requested as we cannot keep track of who is in the area.
We have been listing volunteers that have called into the Sheriff’s Office in the case that our incident commander requests outside assistance; however the sheriff’s office will likely use the media to request outside or public assistance if and when the time comes, at least in the area of the search.
LEADORE – Multiple search crews spent Saturday looking for a toddler who has been missing since Friday.
Lemhi County dispatchers say 2-year-old Deorr Kunz Jr. was on a fishing trip with his family at the Timber Creek campground in Leadore, east of Challis, when he disappeared around 2:40 p.m.
Deorr has blonde hair and, according to dispatchers, was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket, blue pajama pants and cowboy boots.
Several folks from east Idaho traveled to Leadore to help Saturday. Stephan Rockefeller, an Idaho Falls resident, said over 100 people participated in the search. K9 dogs were used and several men and women searched on horses and ATV’s.
No word on if search efforts will continue Sunday. Saturday night the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office said, at this point, they do not need additional volunteers.
Anyone who may have information is asked to contact the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office.
