REXBURG — Longtime City Councilman Chris Mann plans to announce his candidacy for Rexburg mayor later this week.

Mann, a ten year veteran of the Rexburg City Council, recently retired from Brigham Young University-Idaho after more than 30 years of working at the university.

Although he hasn’t officially announced it, Mann has been actively campaigning for the position. He had a float in the Rexburg Independence Day parade and a booth at the Madison County Fair.

Mann said he intends to keep strong community values at the forefront of his campaign, being a voice of the people and listening to each side of the issues facing the city and its residents.

Among the issues Mann sees pressing the city are strengthening its economy by attracting good-paying jobs to Rexburg. He wants to create an economic environment that will keep Rexburg’s kids local rather than moving away. He also wants to retain more BYU-Idaho students instead of losing them to other states.
