UPDATE: Man hit by multiple cars, killed after jumping from moving Salt Lake Express van

UPDATE:

Idaho State Police identified the man killed as Kirk Winward, 45, of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The person killed was not a pedestrian, but a passenger who jumped from a van traveling east on Highway 20 in the left lane, Idaho State Police said the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 22. He was struck my multiple vehicles. Witnesses say the man was in a Salt Lake Express van. His name has not been released pending the notification of next of kin.

IDAHO FALLS — A male pedestrian was hit by at least one vehicle and killed on eastbound U.S. Highway 20, late on Tuesday, Sept 22.

The accident occurred at 10:27 p.m. at milepost 313 by the St. Leon (311) exit.

Police have not yet released details about the cause of the accident, the victim or the vehicle involved in the accident.

Idaho State Police and the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident. Witnesses say authorities covered the pedestrian with a white sheet upon arriving at the scene. The victim was lying in the central median of the road.

The Idaho Department of Transportation was also on scene and aided in closing down a section of the highway between the St. Leon and Hitt Road exits.

Traffic was diverted off the highway.
