PODCAST: Challis interim mayor laments lack of mayoral candidates
Published at | Updated atCHALLIS — As politics go, often people try to avoid it at all costs. In some locations, it can become a community problem as avoidance turns into non-participation, and no one is there to run the local government. This is a situation in the rural town of Challis as, to date, no names have been filed to run for one of the city council seats or for the office of mayor.
The past elected mayor Mark Lupher, had to resign due to time constraints. So Ike Funkhouser, then president of the city council, stepped up and is acting as the interim mayor until a new one is elected in November. The problem is, no one is running.
Mark Richardson talks with interim Mayor Ike Funkhouser about the community’s dilemma in this episode of the Political Podcast (#PoliticalPodcast).
