Rexburg boy takes first steps 2 months after being run over by lawnmower
Published at | Updated atSALT LAKE CITY – A Rexburg toddler took his first steps Thursday morning – nearly two months since he was run over by a lawnmower.
Kayden Emery met with doctors at Shriner’s Hospital in Salt Lake City and was fitted for a prosthetic leg and foot.
Kayden was able to walk around the hospital without assistance and, according to his father, Derek Emery, “He is so happy!”
The two-year-old will use a temporary prosthetic until his family will return to Shriner’s to pick up a permanent leg next week.
An extended family member accidentally backed over Kayden with a riding lawn mower on July 23. Kayden lost his left foot and has lacerations and fractures on his left leg, but his family says those hardships haven’t stopping their energetic son.
