BLACKFOOT — The investigation of Matthew Burgett, the Blackfoot man charged with state terrorism last Thursday, is continuing, but little new information has been released.

Bingham County Sheriff Craig Roland said Tuesday that Burgett’s computer has been released to the FBI, but the sheriff’s office is still leading the investigation. Roland said federal agencies have not decided whether to file federal terrorism charges at this time.

Multiple calls were made to the FBI Tuesday, but at the time of posting, the office had not returned a call to EastIdahoNews.com

Burgett, 24, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 24, and was charged with six counts of unlawful possession of bombs or destructive devices. He was also charged with one count of a terrorist act.

Following a tip, Bingham County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Burgett and executed a search warrant at his home on the 1200 block of South Meridian Street in Balckfoot. Rowland said Butgett took issue with all religions, but didn’t say if he had any specific plans to take action against a certain religious group.

Following his initial court appearance Friday, on the state charges, a $2 million bond was set. Burgett has a preliminary hearing scheduled on Thursday, Oct. 8. Rowland said if federal terrorism charges are to be filed, they should be by that date.
