REXBURG — Police are asking the public for help in finding an Idaho Falls man who fled from the Rexburg Police Department during questioning on Thursday, Dec. 31.

Joey Dunaway, Jr., 30, is wanted on petit theft, resisting and obstructing an officer, malicious injury to property and possession of marijuana.

Rexburg Police Cpt. Randy Lewis says officers were called to a store on North 2nd East on Dec. 31 after someone noticed Dunaway allegedly opening packages and putting items into his coat pockets.

Police arrested Dunaway. During questioning at the Rexburg Police Station, authorities discovered drug paraphernalia and credit cards belonging to another person.

Dunaway was taken to the Rexburg Police Department and questioned. Lewis says at one point, investigators left the room and Dunaway forced the door open with metal from a clipboard. He was able to escape the police department and hasn’t been seen since.

Anyone with information on where Dunaway could be is asked to contact the Rexburg Police Department at (208) 359-3008.
