Antonin Scalia to lie in repose at the Supreme Court on Friday
Published atWASHINGTON (CNN) — Justice Antonin Scalia will lie in repose at the Supreme Court on Friday followed by a funeral Saturday, a source close to the family told CNN.
The funeral will take place at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, the source said.
Meanwhile, Scalia’s Supreme Court bench chair and the bench directly in front of it were draped Tuesday with black wool crepe to memorialize the justice who died over the weekend.
In accordance with Supreme Court tradition, a black drape has also been hung over the courtroom doors.
The tradition dates back at least to 1873 with the death of Chief Justice Salmon P. Chase, according to a statement from the Supreme Court.
The flags on the court’s front plaza will be flown at half-staff for 30 days, the court also said.
