REXBURG — Over the next few weeks, EastIdahoNews.com is hosting a series of forums featuring candidates running for local political office in East Idaho. The Idaho primary will be held May 17.

In Madison County, two people are running for county commission District 2. Incumbent Jon Weber is being challenged by newcomer Jason Drollinger for the two-year seat in the Republican primary.

Weber owns Circle of Love in Rexburg and has served as county commissioner since 2008.

Drollinger is a health coach for Take Shape for Life. This is his first time running for political office.

Both candidates sat down with EastIdahoNews.com reporter Nate Eaton and were asked the following questions:

  • 1. One of the big issues facing Madison County is growth. How do you plan to manage that growth and provide infrastructure to support it?
  • 2. Many people are concerned about wasteful government spending. Are there areas that could be cut and what would you cut?
  • 3. Public officials have an obligation to be transparent. Are the commissioners transparent and is there room for improvement?
  • 4. Envision Madison was a joint effort to plan growth and development for the future in Madison County. The final draft was released in 2015. Was the study useful for the county, and will the county move forward with its recommendations?
  • 5. Why are you the right man for the job?
