SALMON – Lemhi County Sheriff Chief Deputy Steve Penner has announced he is running for sheriff.

Penner’s decision comes after Sheriff Lynn Bowerman said earlier this year that he would not be running for re-election.

Bowerman was appointed sheriff in July 2010. In 2012, he ran and was elected to the position. He says a variety of factors led to his decision to not run again this year.

Penner has been a deputy with the sheriff’s office for years. He is the lead investigator on the case of missing Idaho Falls toddler DeOrr Kunz, Jr.

“I’m ready to roll my sleeves up and go to work,” Penner tells EastIdahoNews.com.

County records show Penner is running unopposed.
