Rexburg Rapids to open early this year
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — City officials have decided to to do something about the increasing temperatures in the upper valley by opening Rexburg Rapids earlier than scheduled.
“I think that our mayor noticed how wonderful our weather was going to be this weekend. There was a definite push in the community to have the pool open and so I think he just wants to do something nice for the community,” said Dodie Beavin, aquatic director.
Rexburg Rapids is having a soft opening Saturday, June 4, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Beavin said the water park will be fully functional as expected on a normal summer day. She also is excited to introduce the park’s new addition.
“We have music playing all day long. We have a new mascot called Tommy the Turtle. He’s going to be around saying hi to little kids and parents and just making it a nice, fun environment,” Beavin said.
Beavin said during the last few years it has coincidentally rained the first week the pool is officially open.
“Typically over the last couple years it’s been super, super hot the week before we open and then we open and it rains. I think we’re going to try to do something about that this year,” Beavin said.
The pool will be closed from June 6 to 10 and will have its official opening June 11. General admission is $5.50 and an additional $1.50 for an unlimited waterslide pass. Concessions will also be available.

“It’s a blast to be able to ride down the big blue slide and the yellow slide,” Beavin said.“We have some of the best guards. Our guards are really attentive, and they really want to make sure that people stay safe.”
