DAY 5: Henry’s Creek Fire burns over 52,000 acres

UPDATE 10:00 a.m.

The following is an update from Great Basin Incident Command Team 7

Currently the Henry’s Creek Fire is 52,233 acres in size and 30 percent contained.

Yesterday the fire grew in the TEK Creek and Indian Fork drainage. Firefighters assisted by dozers and aerial resources worked to control the fire. Bonneville County Sherriff’s Deputies contacted homeowners to ask them to prepare in case they need to leave the area.

Today firefighters will continue to secure the fire line. Strategies include: creating a break using dozers, hand line and putting fire on the ground where it can create a break.

There are currently 289 personnel on this incident, including the following resources:

Aerial resources: tankers dropping retardant and helicopters dropping water will all be used when they can effectively assist the firefighters on the ground.

IDAHO FALLS — Officials say the Henry’s Creek Fire has now burned 52,233 acres and is 30 percent contained.

Incident Commander Tony DeMasters tells EastIdahoNews.com he anticipates his team will be battling the fire for the next three to five days.

The fire continues to move eastward toward the Fall Creek area. On Wednesday evening, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office advised residents along the south side of the Snake River from the Swan Valley River Bridge to Palisades Dam and the Bear Creek Summer Home area to be prepared should the fire approach their homes.

A community meeting will be held tonight at 6:00 p.m. for folks living in the area of the fire. Residents are invited to the Ririe LDS Church at 14061 N 130 E. Fire Managers will be present to discuss the Henry’s Creek Fire.

Firefighters continue to ask the public to stay away from the fire areas so crews can navigate and work efficiently.
