Local woman starts custom cake business while raising her son
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS – Almost two years ago, Katrina Morrow started making custom cakes after she had her son.
Morrow wanted to be home with her son, but also do something she loved while at home. After speaking with her husband, Morrow decided to fill her spare time by creating a home business.
Morrow makes designer cakes — a process she calls “making gold out of sugar and water.” And each cake has to be perfect.
“A cake that should take me two hours, if it doesn’t look right, might take me 10. I will do it until I get it right.” Morrow said.
The great part about running a home business is that she is still able to spend time with her son, who will be two in November.
She enjoys trying to create “out-of-the-box” cakes for people. Some people that order cakes give her an idea of what they want, and others ask her to be creative and follow her heart in making the cake for them.
“I’m naturally a creative person, that’s my strength.” Morrow said.
Her business is something that Morrow hopes to someday take out of her home and to grow into something greater.
“I want to be the best than I can be. I’m not okay with putting out an average product. And where that takes me, I don’t know. Whether I open up a bakery, whether I go further than that, I don’t know but it will be fun to see.”
