Search for missing man in Lemhi County enters third day
Published at | Updated atGILMORE — The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue teams are spending today searching the mountains west of Gilmore to locate a man who disappeared Sunday morning.
Allen Hansen, 57, was last seen on a yellow four-wheeler in the Gilmore area within the Challis National Forest.
Deputies say Hansen told his wife he’d be back shortly. When he didn’t return by that evening, she became concerned and called police.
Neighbors searched trails in the area Sunday night. The search continued Monday with a helicopter equipped with a thermal camera.
“Today we are recovering trails, and we have teams going deeper into the mountains,” Deputy Cheif Steve Penner tells EastIdahoNews.com. “We have another helicopter on its way, and we also have some fix winged planes coming in.”
The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office has over 40 searchers looking for Hansen. Penner says additional help is not needed at this time.
Lemhi County received its first snowfall of the season Sunday night and temperatures dropped below freezing during the night.
There is no cell phone service in the mountains where Hansen vanished.
