SHELLEY — A Shelley high school football coach was stunned Friday night when officials announced they are naming the football field after him.

Richard Hobbs serves as the Varsity Defensive Coordinator for the Shelley Russets and is the longest tenured coach on the staff. He has been coaching with Shelley for nearly 25 years and has become an icon synonymous with the school’s football program.

Shelley played at home against Sugar-Salem High School Friday night and during halftime, Hobbs was called to the field. Officials then unveiled a sign that reads, ‘Welcome to Richard J. Hobbs Field.’
