EAST IDAHO EATS: Paisley Cakes are just as yummy as they look

BLACKFOOT – Brownies, truffles, caramel dipped apples, and custom cakes – Paisley Cakes specializes in crafting sugary goodness.

Owner Lanae Workman said ever since she was a child, having a cake shop has always been a dream.

For the last three years, she and her husband Michael have made that dream a reality.

“It really was a hobby for a while, but when I was 12-years-old I decided that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to own a bakery, and I wanted to decorate cakes for a living,” Workman said.

With 17 years of experience under her belt, Workman has taught herself everything she knows about cake decorating. She says her skills have developed through a lot of passion and practice.

“I do better and better as I go along,” Workman said.

Workman’s award winning custom cakes have become a sensation over the years. She worked on many creative cakes, and aims to make her them taste as good as they look.

“Sometimes you can have a really pretty cake that doesn’t taste very good, but we pride ourselves on being able to have a cake that tastes as good, if not better than it looks,” Workman said.

Workman said the vanilla cake with raspberry filling is one of the most requested classic flavors. Her favorite is something a little more untraditional.

“There’s so many different flavors, but one of my favorites is strawberry lemonade — vanilla cake, lemon curd filling, and then a special strawberry frosting. It’s super delicious,” Workman said.

Other popular hits are the chocolate dipped Oreos, and the chocolate dipped cheesecake. The cheesecake comes in a serving about the size of your palm and is entirely coated in milk chocolate all mounted on a stick. You don’t even have to use a fork to enjoy this rich treat.

“They make some of the most amazing things,” customer Ali Shipley said. “My favorite by far is the cheesecake on a stick.”

Workman said Paisley Cakes is the place to come if you need a quick treat, or have a custom order. There is a drive through on the side of the building, which customers frequent. Along with treats customers can pick up a tasty drink to go with their order.

“We do offer drinks. So we have sodas with speciality purees and things which are kinda fun, smoothies, hot chocolate and cappuccinos to go along with our treats.
