FORT HALL — Idaho State Police are investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on I-15 near Fort Hall.
The accident occurred at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday night.
David Dunn, 43, of Taylorsville, Utah, was driving southbound on I-15 near milepost 83, in a semi truck and trailer.
Ramon Ponce, 66, of Idaho Falls, was driving southbound in a 2000 Ford F150. Ponce attempted to overtake the semi as they entered a construction zone. The front driver’s side of the semi truck made contact with the rear side of the F150. The pickup rolled and came to rest on its top off the west shoulder of the Interstate.
Ponce’s passenger, Josefina Yanez Ponce, 61, of Idaho Falls, was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Ramon Ponce was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
It is unclear if either occupant of the F150 was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Dunn was not transported.
The southbound interstate was partially blocked for approximately four hours.
