Circus comes to Ashton on Saturday
Published at | Updated atASHTON — Caramel corn, a large striped tent and performers of every kind will draw people to the circus in Asthon this weekend.
The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus based in Hugo, Oklahoma (Circus City USA), is making an appearance Saturday.
Not only is this a huge show for the small community, but it’s also its largest fundraiser. Fifty percent of proceeds from the circus go to the Ashton Rotary Club.
“It’s a really cool deal for us. It’s our biggest fundraiser that we do here, and it’s a really fun show,” club member Billy Stronks said.
Stronks said the circus reached out to the city about five years ago about hosting a show in town.
“I thought, ‘Wow. It’d be cool to bring the top circus to little old Ashton.’ I kind of thought they were joking with me at first. I didn’t know they’d actually come,” Stronks said.
The circus has multiple performances including acrobatics, balancing acts, large animal acts, pet tricks, juggling, and more.
“It’s a real circus with acrobats. They have lions and tigers … just all the cool stuff,” Stronks said.
The public can meet the animals and performers for free Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The paid shows are at 2 and 4:30 p.m.
Buy tickets before Saturday for $10 per adult, or $7 per child. On the day of the circus, adults pay $13, and kids are $8. Children under 2 attend free. It will be at the old high school football field near U.S. Highway 20 across from the Frost Top Drive-In.
You can buy advanced tickets at 511 Main Fountain and Pizzeria in Ashton until 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
