Get ready for a weekend of cars in Rexburg
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — Two shows are coming to Rexburg on Friday.
One is hosted by a Brigham Young University-Idaho student, and the other is the 23rd annual car show hosted by Taylor Chevorlet Buick Cadillac in Rexburg.
Jackie Milligan, communication senior at BYU-Idaho, planned a car show and contest for her senior project. The show is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. across from the U.S. Post Office on Center Street.
Although it’s her final semester, she says this isn’t the first car show she has organized during her time as a student.
Milligan hosted a car show with two other women for their event management course her freshman year.
“It was really fun, it was really successful,” Milligan said.
Leading with ideas from her first show, she took up the challenge of organizing this event on her own.
“I just wanted to do another to be like the first one I did, but make it a little bit better and try to incorporate different things this time,” Milligan said.
This time around there will be prizes offered to a winners selected from several categories. The prizes include items donated from the BYU-Idaho Bookstore, BYU-Idaho Outdoor Resource Center, and BYU-Idaho’s Integrated Business Core (IBC) companies.
Some IBC groups will be selling at the event as well.
Milligan said spectators can expect to see about 25 cars ranging from classic to clunker.
“We have a lot of 1970s Plymouth cars. A lot of classic cars are the most fun to see I think because they’ve been worked on and restored and they’re fun. We’ll also have some clunker cars … that some students have entered into the show. You’ll see both ends of the spectrum,” Milligan said.
Milligan said the show will also be near the Rexburg Farmer’s Market, which she hopes will boost attendance to the show.
The second show is hosted by Taylor Chevrolet will be held at the Madison County Fairgrounds at 460 W. 2nd N. on Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m.
The dealership’s owner, David Taylor, said in the past the event was held at the dealership. Because of the show’s growth there had to be a change of venue.
“We kind have outgrown the dealership in the past. We get between 200 and 300 cars,” Taylor said.
Taylor said the public can look forward to any kind of car at the show. It varies every year.
“We never know what’s going to be here, but we’ve had things from as old as a 1911 Cadilac to a 2017 Corvette, or Mustang,” he said.
Taylor said there is no preregistration, and the event is free.
Participants will be fed by Big Jud’s, which is catering for the event.
Country musicians Branch and Dean will be singing after the car show. Proceeds from the concert will go toward the Madison County Fair Board.
“It’s going to be perfect weather, it’s on the grass, good food, great cars, and an opportunity to hear a great band,” Taylor said.
Taylor said the event will be alternating years with the Legacy Flight Museum’s air show. There will not be a car show next year due to the air show.
And if you’re in Idaho Falls this weekend, check out the 39th annual Swap Meet and Car Show.
That event will take place at Joe Marmo/Wayne Lehto Ice Arena at Tautphaus Park on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
