POCATELLO — One teenager died and seven other juveniles were hurt in an early Saturday morning one-vehicle wreck on the city’s west bench.

The identity of the teenager killed in the 3:30 a.m. crash on West Trail Creek Road has not yet been released. But Idaho State Police confirm the juvenile was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The vehicle, a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was being driven by James Smith, 19, of Pocatello. ISP officials say the vehicle went off the left shoulder, back over into the lanes, and off the right shoulder where it overturned down an embankment.

Smith was wearing his seatbelt and was not transported, according to a news release.

The seven juveniles and the teen that died were not wearing seat belts. Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the scene to transport the seven injured youths to Portneuf Medical Center.

West Trail Creek Road was temporarily shut down because of the crash.
