UPDATE: Tornado warning has expired in eastern Idaho

UPDATE:

The tornado warning expired in all parts of eastern Idaho just before 10 p.m. Sunday.

ORIGINAL STORY:

REXBURG — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado Warning for the following areas until 9:15 p.m.:

– Southwestern Fremont County
– North central Jefferson County
– Northwestern Madison County
– Southeastern Clark County

At 8:51 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 8 miles east of Hamer, or 14 miles northwest of Rexburg, moving northeast at 30 mph. Tornado and hail up to two inches in diameter is possible.

Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of southwestern Fremont, north central Jefferson, northwestern Madison and southeastern Clark Counties, including the southern Saint Anthony Sand Dunes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
The National Weather Service urges people in the warning area to TAKE COVER. Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
