Idaho Falls salon gives away surprise scholarship

IDAHO FALLS — Vogue Beauty College and Salon made a high school student’s dream a reality by awarding her a $1,000 scholarship this week.
After announcing a scholarship giveaway on its social media pages recently, the salon received dozens of entries. The $1,000 award would go toward tuition at the beauty college.
On Wednesday, the Salon invited EastIdahoNews.com to be a part of the surprise announcement. Alyssa Gulbransen, 18, was given the award while eating lunch with her parents at Plum Loco.
I”m just very excited that I won, didn’t think I would,” Gulbransen said. “I have been looking towards Vogue for a long time.”
Gulbransen has been working on applying to the school and communicating with administrators for some time.
Prospective students submitted a short essay about their love for the beauty industry, and their desire to attend Vogue Beauty College and Salon.
“It was extremely hard. We had so many essays you guys, it was so great to see the involvement. It was tough but we did narrow it down to one particular person,” scholarship organizer Carla Dunthorn said.
Although choosing a winner was difficult, but Dunthorn said Gulbransen was deserving.
“She wrote a fantastic essay and she’s working very, very hard to make this dream a reality,” Dunthorn said. “We want to make sure her dreams come true.”
