ISU student on mission to help others hear
Published atPOCATELLO — A Dubois native attending Idaho State University is on a mission to help others hear.
Fernando Espinoza has partnered with the Starkey Hearing Foundation to provide as many hearing aids as possible to children and adults locally and around the world.
Espinoza started his project three months ago during a difficult time.
“I knew I wanted to help people. I knew I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life,” he tells EastIdahoNews.com. “Some conflict happened in my life and I was sad and wanted to pick myself up. I used that as motivation to help other people.”
The Starkey Hearing Foundation has a goal this year of providing 100,000 hearing aids to people with hearing loss across the globe. Espinoza hopes to personally raise at least $5,000 for the cause.
“I posted this on social media…and over 38,000 people have seen my tweet,” Espinoza says. “Imagine if every single one of them donated a dollar – even half of them.”
Espinoza was working two jobs but quit one so he could focus on the project. So far, he has raised over $800 and received six donated hearing aids, which can cost anywhere from $500 to nearly $10,000.
“I want to make a difference and change the lives of many,” Espinoza says. “Great things can happen if we all work together for the greater good of humanity.”
