IDAHO FALLS — High school students from Idaho Falls School District 91 and Bonneville Joint School District 93 will hold a March for Our Lives Rally Saturday in Idaho Falls.

“I really feel like this is a chance for us to push for dialogue about an issue that’s been festering for several years now,” Jacob Rich, a senior at Compass Academy and one of the organizers, said in a news release. “This isn’t anti-anything, and we’re certainly not against the Second Amendment. This is more about asking our representatives to take action on something that a majority of the public agrees on.”

March for Our Lives is a demonstration scheduled to take place on March 24 in Washington, D.C. and throughout the United States. Student organizers are planning the march in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Everytown for Gun Safety, following the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida.

Rich has been working with high school students from around the area to plan the march’s route, which starts at the pier near Snake River Landing, over the Pancheri bridge, then continues up Capital Ave. and onto Memorial Dr. The march will end outside the offices of Representative Mike Simpson (R) and Senator Mike Crapo (R).

“We have some great youth leaders and activists in our community,” he said. “It’s great we can provide them a platform to share their passion and their views. We’re going to be the leaders of tomorrow. This is a perfect chance for us to put our Constitutional right in action.”

The event begins at 10 a.m. at the pier near Snake River Landing.
