IDAHO FALLS — A local business is looking for information about an expensive piece of equipment that was stolen from a job site Sunday night.

Bybee Excavation is working a job site on Hitt Road across from Cabela’s in Idaho Falls. On Saturday, workers left a Skid Loader at the site trying to save money on transportation. When they arrived to continue working Monday morning they discovered the Skid Loader was gone.

“As small business owners — and we just barely paid that off, we’re not going to get as much out of it from the insurance to replace it,” Addie Bybee told EastIdahoNews.com. “That hurts. We need our machine back.”

The piece of equipment is a 2009 Cat 289c Skid Loader, valued at between $25,000 to $30,000, Bybee said.

Bybee filed a police report, although investigators have not been able to follow up as of yet.

Bybee said Idaho Falls police told them to check with nearby local businesses to see if they had surveillance footage. When they examined surveillance footage they saw a white pickup truck visit the job site around midnight Sunday.

“It came unloaded and left loaded,” Bybee said. “(The employee who viewed the surveillance footage) saw the pickup go around like they were scouting the place out first. Then they came back at 12:30 a.m. and loaded it up and left.”

The truck is described as white with a short bed and a tool chest inside. The trailer appears to have short walls around it. The truck entered the work zone from the south on Hitt Road and exited traveling north on Hitt.

No other information was available about the theft.

Anyone with information about the theft is encouraged to call Idaho Falls Public Safety Dispatch at (208) 529-1200.
