Man accused of trying to steal over $1,000 of merchandise from Walmart
Published atAMMON — A man was arrested after trying to push over $1,000 worth of items out the front doors of Walmart.
Andrew Thomas, 27, was taken into custody after being stopped by Walmart’s loss prevention employees as he allegedly tried to steal $1,091 in merchandise.
When asked why he tried to steal the items, court documents show he replied, “It was worth a shot.”
Documents state Thomas allegedly filled a cart full of items and even placed a few in Walmart plastic bags. As he attempted to push the items out the door, he showed the greeter a receipt from Nov. 18 to make it appear he had purchased the merchandise.
When first questioned by investigators, he allegedly attempted to give a false name and date of birth. When he finally gave his real information, detectives discovered Thomas had a warrant out for his arrest in Bingham County.
The warrant was for failing to appear for a hearing regarding drug charges.
Thomas was arrested and is facing charges of felony grand theft, burglary and giving false information to law enforcement.
He is scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 2.
