BOISE — A 32-year-old snowboarder has died from his injuries after he attempted to jump over a Boise County road and was hit by an SUV.

Shea Helmick of Meridian was snowboarding outside the boundary of Bogus Basin Ski Resort on Saturday afternoon when he attempted to jump over Bogus Basin Road, according to an Idaho State Police news release.

It unclear why Helmick attempted the jump, however, during the attempt he was struck by a 2006 Hummer H2 that was being driven northbound by a juvenile driver.

Helmick was transported by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise where he succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

The juvenile driver and his juvenile passenger were not transported to the hospital, according to the release.
