Completion of delayed Ammon roundabout within sight

AMMON — After months of delays, the road project at the intersection of First Street and 45th East (Crowley Road) should be finished next week.
Construction crews first broke ground in May and expected to have the project done by the end of August. However, several delays pushed the project back, causing headaches for drivers and neighbors near the project.
“There has been some huge delays with dry utilities,” Bonneville County Public Works director Lance Bates told EastIdahoNews.com. “(Companies) not cooperating, not helping us, not getting it done quick enough,”
Dry utilities include cable, electric, telephone, natural gas, fiber optics and other utilities that are not “wet.” Water, sewer and storm drains compose “wet” utilities.
Bates explained that this week, crews plan to lay the asphalt through the project and add the finishing touches. If all goes according to plan, Bates said the road should be opened early next week.
It’s not exactly clear if the project will be over budget with the delays. The finalized cost is not yet complete, according to Bates.
The First Street and 45th East project was not the only one in the area. Another contractor built a roundabout at East Lincoln Road and 45th East over a week during September.
