Man dies after being struck by train near Pocatello

POCATELLO — A man is dead after being struck by a train near the Pocatello Regional Airport Monday night.

The Power County Sheriff’s Office reports first responders found 41-year-old Ryan Thomas Smith struck by the Union Pacific Railroad train at around 8 p.m. His body was found on the tracks behind the Jet Stop truck stop.

Thomas was from St. Louis, Missouri but traveling in the area, according to a news release. He had a dog with him who is still missing. Mia is a brown-colored pitbull.

Anyone who sees the dog is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (208) 226-2319.

The crash and death remain under investigation.
