ISU names Ronneburg interim dean of the college of technology effective Jan. 18

POCATELLO — Idaho State University has named Debra Ronneburg as the interim replacement for College of Technology Dean Scott Rasmussen.
Rasmussen has served as the college’s dean since 2011 and will retire on Jan. 15. Ronneburg will take over the role on Jan. 18, and looks to continue the program’s overall mission.
“At college of technology, we have always been responsive to industry,” Ronneburg told EastIdahoNews.com in a phone interview. “We try to see what the workforce’s needs are and try to provide qualified people to enter industries that Idaho needs. We will continue to do that, we will continue to assess the needs of our workforce and see what programs are needed.”
Rasmussen expects her to fill the role well.
“Debbie’s extraordinary service as associate dean for the last eight years has prepared her well to step into this role as interim dean,” Rasmussen said in a university news release. “Her many skills, abilities, and pleasant personality make her an outstanding choice to continue to move the college forward until a new dean is selected.”
Ronneburg, a native of Blackfoot and graduate of Blackfoot High School, has worked at ISU for more than 24 years, the majority of which spent in student services. Prior to her employment at the university, Ronneburg was a student and currently holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Public Administration degree from ISU.
She also plans to complete her Doctorate of Educational Leadership in Higher Education Administration this spring.
As far as the work that waits for her in the office of the dean, Ronneburg looks forward to working with other technical colleges in Idaho, something she said includes monthly gatherings.
Ronneburg’s selection as the associate dean began with her filling the role in the interim. Asked if she has intentions of pursuing the position permanently, Ronneburg was noncommittal.
“(The university) will do a national search,” she said. “So if I want to apply for the position I would be able to. We’ll just wait and see when that search comes out.”
