AMMON – A Texas-based restaurant chain is opening its first location in eastern Idaho this week.

Super Chix will open to the public Wednesday at 11 a.m. at 2671 East Sunnyside Road in Ammon inside the new Hillcrest Plaza. Vice President of Operations Nate Kenyon tells EastIdahoNews.com Wednesday’s opening will happen without fanfare, but a grand opening is in the works Saturday.

“We’re just going to open the doors and see what happens. I’m sure it’s going to be an outpouring from the community. Saturday is the day we’re going to drive the community wild,” Kenyon says. “The first 100 people through the door (on Saturday), we’re giving a free chicken sandwich and a free regular fry.”

Employees were busy preparing for the opening Monday afternoon.

The 3,000-square-foot restaurant was originally slated to open in April or May, but Kenyon says a major push in construction will allow it to open much sooner than anticipated.

“We found some pretty amazing contractors who were able to get us through the process and get us open as fast as we could,” he says.

Super Chix is a fast-casual dining franchise that offers a variety of chicken sandwiches, hand-cut fries, salads and frozen custard. Bill Hawes, President of Flying H Holdings, LLC, a franchisee for Super Chix, says one of the most popular items is The Simple chicken sandwich, a hand-breaded filet served with pickles on a butter toasted bun.

What sets Super Chix apart from similar competing restaurants, Hawes says, is that the food isn’t cooked until it’s ordered.

The company that owns Super Chix used to own Five Guys. Hawes was involved in bringing Five Guys to Ammon and that experience played a role in his decision to open Super Chix. This particular location was appealing to him.

“It’s got a lot of gravity in that area,” Hawes told us in December. “It’s great to be close to the high school, other (places to shop) and the movies. There’s a lot of food choices in that area and it’s growing.”

Super Chix first opened in Dallas, Texas in 2013 and has grown to include stores throughout the Lone Star state, Alabama and Utah. New locations are planned for Bozeman, Montana, Fort Collins, Colorado and San Jose, California. Hawes says he plans to open a store in Logan, Utah, Pocatello and Rexburg in the near future.

Kenyon and Hawes are excited to open and begin serving customers.

“We’re really excited to be in this area. This is our first of 10 locations and we couldn’t be any more excited to be in Idaho Falls. We anticipate this being a flagship store in the state,” says Kenyon.

Super Chix will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday with a 10 p.m. closing time Friday and Saturday. Visit the website or Facebook page for more information.
