Blowing dust and wind close section of Interstate 15
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — High winds and blowing dust have closed a section of Interstate 15 in eastern Idaho.
The Idaho Transportation Department says the interstate is closed at the U.S. Highway 20 interchange in Idaho Falls to Idaho Highway 33 near Roberts. The closure began shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Arco and Mud Lake area with southwest winds blowing 40 to 50 mph. Forecasters expect gust to reach 60 mph through 6 p.m. Thursday with winds decreasing into the evening.
Much of the rest of eastern Idaho remains under a wind advisory, with winds between 30 to 40 mph and gusts of 50 to 55 mph. NWS officials say such high winds in the region could lead to more road closures, downed trees and power outages.
They urge people to use caution while driving, especially in high-profile vehicles.
