Wind warning in effect for most of eastern Idaho Saturday, gusts up to 60 mph expected

IDAHO FALLS — Tie down the trampolines and prepare to stay inside Saturday as a high wind warning will be in effect most of the day.
Winds from 35 to 45 mph with gusts around 60 mph are expected across most of eastern Idaho, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts up to 70 mph are predicted across the Arco Desert and the INL north and east toward Idaho Falls and Rexburg.
The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and includes the Craters of the Moon, Atomic City, Mud Lake, Idaho Falls, Ammon, Rigby, Rexburg, and St. Anthony areas.
Visibility could be reduced to 1/4 mile or less as blowing dust creates dangerous driving conditions and potential road closures, especially on Interstate 15 from Idaho Falls to Roberts. Strong winds may damage trees and power lines resulting in power outages. Travel will be very difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles and vehicles with trailers.
South of Idaho Falls, a wind advisory has been issued for the following cities and their surrounding areas: Pocatello, Chubbuck, Fort Hall, Blackfoot, Aberdeen, Shoshone, Carey, Burley, American Falls, Shelley, Firth, Rupert, Heyburn and Oakley.
The advisory shows winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 mph expected between the same time Saturday.
The National Weather Service advises people to avoid being outside around trees and branches. Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
