IDAHO FALLS — Apparently there has been confusion for years over whether the plastic utensil in your McDonald’s McFlurry is a straw or a spoon.

The fast-food chain plans to clear things up during a nationwide promotion Tuesday offering free Regular Size Caramel Brownie McFlurry treats to everyone with a McDonald’s App.

“Our McFlurry spoon is ~misunderstood~ and every true McDonald’s fan understands the struggle of confusing it for a straw,” the chain said in a news release. “While we can’t change the iconic hollow spoon (a key piece of the mixing process), we can help ease the sting of your facepalm upon figuring out how to use it.”

Customers can present their McDonald’s App at participating restaurants any time Tuesday and get the free McFlurry. The offer is valid one time per customer and no purchase is necessary.

If you’d rather stay home, customers can get the free treat from May 3-9 when you make a minimum $15 purchase on McDelivery with Uber Eats.

You can find more information about the promotion here.
