Idaho Falls man killed in rural eastern Idaho shooting

SALMON — Authorities have identified an Idaho Falls man as the person killed in an altercation in rural Lemhi County Tuesday.
The incident unfolded in the Panther Creek Road area and involved two men and a woman. During the altercation, multiple guns were fired and 32-year-old Jon Ryan Kesterson was hit and killed, according to Lemhi County Sheriff Steve Penner in a news release.
The other man in the shooting is identified as 26-year-old Tel William Pethtel of Burley. According to the news release, Pethtel is in custody on unrelated charges.

The woman was not publically identified by authorities.
An autopsy for Kesterson was set to take place sometime Friday.
The incident continues to be under investigation by the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Police.
