ST. ANTHONY — Around 70 students held posters and stood outside South Fremont Junior High School on Monday morning protesting to bring their teacher back to the classroom.

Students and parents told EastIdahoNews.com that Travis Angell, a health and PE teacher, has been on administrative leave for about two weeks and a substitute teacher has been in his place.

“The school won’t tell us a lot about what happened. He has changed so many lives. He has personally changed mine by the way he talks and the way he treats people and we just think he deserves his job,” said Nicholas Hansen, an 8th grade student who was part of the protest.

It’s unclear what led to Angell’s removal from the classroom and Fremont School District 215 Superintendent Byron Stutzman was out of the office on Monday.

“Because this is a personnel issue, we really can’t say much about it because it’s all still in the works,” Assistant Superintendent David Marotz told EastIdahoNews.com. “The superintendent is still working on things so we can’t really say anything out of respect for the parties involved.”

EastIdahoNews.com emailed Angell but we have not received a response.

Parents and students hope their actions will send a message to administrators that they want Angell back in the classroom immediately.

“Mr. Angell has done so much for my kids. I’ve known Travis for forever. He’s a good man. He loves his kids. He’s an excellent teacher and he does not deserve this at all,” one parent said.
