Man killed after sliding off road down 125-foot embankment

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.
Idaho State Police is investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1635 on American Bar Road on the Salmon River in Idaho County.
A 61-year-old male was driving a 1996 Ford F-150 westbound on American Bar Road. The road is an extremely narrow and rocky dirt road.
The driver attempted to negotiate a narrow curve around a previous rockslide and slid off the roadway. The pickup rolled approximately 125 feet down an extremely steep embankment to the riverbank.
The driver did not appear to have been wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The next of kin has been notified.
The incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
