IDAHO FALLS — An 85-year-old man has died after a crash on Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls on Wednesday.

All three people were transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Idaho Falls Police officers determined a white Chevrolet pickup was traveling eastbound and a red Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Sunnyside. The driver of the Nissan later told officers that he lost consciousness before the crash. The Nissan crossed the center lane, hitting the Chevrolet nearly head-on, according to an Idaho Falls Police news release.

The man driving the Nissan was a 36-year-old, and a female passenger was inside the vehicle. At the time of the crash, he was in stable condition. The passenger was in critical condition.

The Chevrolet was being driven by Beauchat, who was alone in his vehicle. He was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in critical condition. He later passed away at the hospital.

“As a department, we have, and continue to, offer our sincere condolences to the loved ones of this individual at this difficult time,” the release said.

Investigators have determined that both alcohol and illegal drug use, as well as speed, were factors in the crash in regard to the driver of the Nissan.

None of the people involved were wearing seatbelts.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No other names have been released at this time.
