UPDATE: 85-year-old man dies after crash on Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS — Three people have been hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Sunnyside Road and Potomac Way in Idaho Falls.

The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Idaho Falls Police spokeswoman Jessica Clements.

It’s not yet clear what caused the crash, but it has resulted in the closure of all westbound lanes from Washington Parkway to Nina Drive.

Idaho Falls Fire Department spokeswoman Kerry Hammon said a 70-year-old man is in critical condition following the crash. A 50-year-old woman and 34-year-old man were also injured in the crash. All three were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Authorities are asking residents to avoid the area while the crash is being cleaned up.

“We’re expecting to be on scene and be impacting traffic for a considerable amount of time,” Clements said.
